Think outside of the "typical" classroom setting

Imagine the richness of lessons taught in the places they are lived

What is it?
Stampede School is about much more than the ten day Calgary Stampede. This exciting, versatile site is rich with possibilities.

Located on the second floor of the Agriculture Building,  on the Stampede Grounds, Stampede School is the perfect site for you and your students to explore western heritage and values through Calgary's history, our fabulous grain academy and many more exciting sites.

Stampede School offers a wealth of opportunities for connections to curricular areas.

Learn how our city has grown and changed from a small agricultural community to a modern metropolis, with the help of the Stampede Archivist.
  • Enhance your study of Waste in Our World by working with Stampede personnel.
  • Explore what it would be like to be a professional Chuckwagon Driver or Outrider.
  • Participate in a Detective Program at the Stampede's Archives.
  • Learn to look deeply at art by examining works from the Stampede Art Collection.
  • Review and discuss social issues with Stampede staff and volunteers about Agriculture, Stampedes and Community Vitality and Protection as the Stampede Grounds expand.
  • Visit the Union Cemetery for a guided tour of the past hundred years.
  • Discover the Fist Nation people of the Calgary Stampede Indian Village.
  • Examine how the Elbow River is preserved by the Stampede in a natural state.

The possibilities are endless. Each week at Stampede School is custom made to complement your year long program. Working with the coordinator, you can utilize the public events and activities taking place during your week at the site, allowing plenty of time for discussion, journal writing and drawing. Your students will come away with a deeper understanding of the services The Calgary Stampede provides to meet the needs of Calgarians and Albertans.
